Wang Yi Attends 2019 National Meeting of Director Generals of Local Foreign Affairs Offices and Delivers a Report

On December 27, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the 2019 National Meeting of Director Generals of Local Foreign Affairs Offices in Guiyang of Guizhou Province and delivered a report. The meeting was chaired by Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Sun Zhigang.

Focusing on learning and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, Wang Yi made an in-depth analysis of the rich connotation of the profound changes unseen in a century, and gave a comprehensive elaboration of the historic juncture of China's development, opportunities and challenges facing China and China's major-country diplomacy in the new era. Wang Yi stressed, in 2020, we will secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. 2020 will also be the final year for completing the 13th Five-Year Plan. In China's diplomatic service, we must become deeply conscious of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment. We must strengthen confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We must resolutely uphold the core position of General Secretary Xi Jinping, and resolutely uphold the authority of the Party Central Committee and its centralized, unified leadership. We must remain true to our original aspiration, and make continuous and sustained efforts to tackle tough issues head-on. We must strive to facilitate domestic development and achieve the first centenary goal.

Wang Yi said, we must strengthen the CPC Central Committee's centralized and unified leadership on foreign affairs work and modernize the system and capacity for conducting diplomacy and foreign-related work, so as to better serve China's high-quality development and high-standard opening-up. The Foreign Ministry should make greater efforts to guide, coordinate, manage, serve and support the foreign services at local level.

Over 200 people attended the meeting, including Secretary of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Sun Zhigang, Governor of the People's Government of Guizhou Province Shen Yiqin, Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council Peng Shujie, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, Director Generals of Local Foreign Affairs Offices of various provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and sub-provincial cities, heads of some prefecture-level cities, and relevant principal comrades of the Office of Foreign Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, the Foreign Ministry, China International Development Cooperation Agency and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
