2019-12-02 20:00

On December 2, 2019, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Secretary of the National Security Council Nikolai Patrushev of the Russian Federation, who was in China for the meeting of the China-Russia law-enforcement and security cooperation mechanism and China-Russia strategic security consultation.

Xi Jinping pointed out, China and Russia successfully held celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. Bilateral relations have entered a new era. China and Russia should stand closer, always be sincere and reliable strategic partners, and give each other firm and strong strategic support amid the complex and volatile international situation.

Xi Jinping stressed, the United States (US) and some other Western countries have increased their interference in the internal affairs of China and Russia since the start of the year, posing threats to the two countries' sovereignty and security and hindering the economic and social development of the two countries. The Chinese side fully agrees with President Vladimir Putin's comment that this approach is utterly wrong and hurts other countries without benefiting themselves. I firmly believe that no force will prevent the Chinese people and nation from marching forward, and that the Russian people will not be affected by external interference either and they will also continue to unswervingly follow their own development path. The two countries should continue making good use of the mechanisms of strategic security consultation and cooperation in law enforcement and security to strengthen strategic security communication, enhance strategic mutual trust, safeguard our respective core interests as well as our common security, and maintain regional and global peace and stability.

Nikolai Patrushev said, Russia and China are comprehensive strategic partners of coordination with strategic significance, and the two countries' cooperation in various fields has reached an unprecedented level at present. Russia-China relations are solid and unbreakable. A series of policies currently adopted by the US have not only undermined the interests of Russia and China but also exerted a negative impact on the whole international system and order. As Russia and China share the same or similar position on many major international issues, the two sides should continue to step up coordination, safeguard our respective sovereignty and security, maintain international strategic stability, promote multipolarization and democracy of international relations, and uphold international law as well as a fair international order.

Yang Jiechi, Guo Shengkun, Wang Yi and others were present.
