Wang Yi Met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders of Belgium

On November 19, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders of Belgium.

Wang Yi welcomed Reynders who accompanied Princess Astrid on her visit to China, and congratulated him on his election as Commissioner for Justice of the European Commission. Wang Yi said, Princess Astrid came with the largest trade delegation once led by the Belgian royal family in history. This has fully showed the vitality and broad prospects of the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. China's stability and opening up is an important opportunity for all countries in the world, including Belgium. China is willing to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation with Belgium, respect each other's core interests, and jointly safeguard the international order and multilateral system with the United Nations at its core.

Wang Yi said, Prime Minister Charles Michel and you will serve as President of the European Council and Commissioner for Justice of the European Commission, which means that Belgium will play a more important role in the European Union. I believe that both of you will make greater contribution to the healthy development of China-EU relations on your new important posts.

Reynders said that he attaches great importance to relations with China, hopes to seize the major opportunity of jointly building "Belt and Road Initiative," further expand cooperation in trade and investment with China, strengthen communication and coordination with China in international and regional affairs, jointly safeguard multilateralism and free trade, and promote new progress in bilateral relations and EU-China relations.
