On October 16, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with President of the Constitutional Council Laurent Fabius of France.

Wang Yi expressed, China-France relations have maintained the high-level development under the guidance of the two heads of state. In March this year, President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to France, which lifted bilateral relations to a new strategic height. Both China and France are responsible major countries with broad consensus on upholding multilateralism, opposing unilateralism, promoting international cooperation and improving global governance. We are ready to work with the French side to continue to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, strengthen communication and coordination on major global and regional issues and deliver positive energy to the international community.

Laurent Fabius said, France-China relations enjoy a sound momentum of development, with constantly expanded cooperation in various fields, and in particular, with closer cooperation in tackling climate change and protecting biodiversity. In the complex international situation, unilateralism and protectionism prevails, posing challenges to the international order and norms governing international relations. France and China have the responsibility to enhance communication and cooperation and contribute to world peace and development.

Both sides also exchanged views on China-Europe relations and international and regional issues of common concern.
