On October 15, 2019, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks at request with President Emmanuel Macron of France.

Xi Jinping thanked Emmanuel Macron for his warm congratulatory message on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Xi Jinping noted, the French government and people have rendered much help and support to the construction and development of the PRC. China's development cannot be separated from the rest of the world, and the world's development cannot be separated from China. China will continue to unswervingly pursue an opening-up strategy of mutual benefit and win-win results, and work together with peoples around the world, including the French people, to forge ahead with the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Xi Jinping stressed, this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. In March this year, I paid a successful state visit to France at your invitation, during which we opened together a new chapter for bilateral relations. The two sides have continuously consolidated political mutual trust, achieved new results in practical cooperation in economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement and other fields, and made more effective communication and coordination in international affairs. I am willing to maintain exchanges and communication with you, push forward China-France cooperation for more high-quality results, work together to uphold multilateralism, oppose unilateralism, promote an open world economy, and tackle global challenges. The Chinese side actively supports the French side in holding the second Paris Peace Forum. The French side is welcome to participate in the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) as a guest country of honor.

Emmanuel Macron said, I once again congratulate the PRC on the 70th anniversary of its founding. France and China enjoy close and lasting relations. President Xi Jinping's state visit to France in March this year has effectively pushed forward the development of France-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Under the current circumstances, it is of great significance for our two countries to maintain bilateral strategic communication. The French side stands ready to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side in such fields as trade, civil nuclear energy, aviation and culture, jointly revitalize multilateralism, and work together to address major global issues including the environment and climate change. I am willing to maintain close exchanges with President Xi Jinping and look forward to visiting China again in the near future. The French side actively supports the second CIIE.

The two heads of state also exchanged views on major international and regional issues of common concern.
