On October 11, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived in Chennai by a special plane for the second informal meeting between leaders of China and India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Republic of India.

At around 2:10 p.m. local time, Xi Jinping's special plane arrived at Chennai International Airport. As Xi Jinping walked out of the cabin, Governor of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit, and the state's Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami waited beside the gangway and presented flowers to Xi Jinping. Local people dressed in folk costumes sang and danced to warmly welcome the distinguished Chinese guests. Some local people performed Bharatanatyam with a strong flavor of ethnic characteristics, while some walked on stilts and performed land boat dance.

As Xi Jinping's motorcade departed from the airport for the city area, many local students and residents lined up in the streets, waving the Chinese and Indian national flags, holding portrayals of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and chanting "China-India friendship" to express their warm welcome to President Xi Jinping.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and other delegation members arrived by the same plane.

H.E. Sun Weidong, Chinese Ambassador to India, also greeted Xi Jinping at the airport.

Xi Jinping will also pay a state visit to Nepal after his trip to India.
