Wang Qishan meets Solomon Islands' Foreign Minister Manele

On September 23, Vice President Wang Qishan met with Solomon Islands' Foreign Minister Jeremiah Manele in Zhongnanhai.

Wang Qishan said, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, it is of great significance for China and Solomon Islands to establish formal diplomatic relations. The recognition of the one-China principle by the Solomon Islands' government is a correct decision in line with the trend of world history and reflects its strategic vision and political courage.

In recent years, the relations between China and South Pacific countries have made headway and the prospects for the future are broad. Solomon Islands is an important ocean island country in South Pacific region. Under the guarantee of diplomatic ties, bilateral cooperation in political, economic, social, cultural, ecological and other fields will be carried out in an all-round way, bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Manele conveyed Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare's sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, and expressed warm congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He said that the establishment of diplomatic ties between Solomon Islands and China has paved the way for the all-round development of bilateral relations. Solomon Islands will abide by the one-China principle, support the Belt and Road Initiative, and break new ground for bilateral ties.
