Wang Yi Meets with Vice Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Ri Su Yong

On September 4, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Pyongyang with Ri Su Yong, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), Member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and Director of the International Department.

Wang Yi said, this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and it is of great significance to both sides. The traditional friendship forged by the elder generations of leaders of the two countries has stood the test of time and vicissitudes in the international landscape and has become a common asset of both sides. Nowadays, General Secretary Xi Jinping and Chairman Kim Jong Un have assumed the historical mission, injecting new vitality into the relations between the two Parties and the two countries. We should, in accordance with the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries, shoulder our due responsibilities, maintain, consolidate and develop the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK and advance the friendly cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Wang Yi expressed, under the leadership of Chairman Kim Jong Un, the WPK has drawn up a new strategic line, which conforms to the fundamental interests of the DPRK, the nation and the DPRK people. We believe that the DPRK side will overcome all difficulties, advance this line and achieve its strategic goals. Wang Yi noted, socialism with Chinese characteristics has made great achievements and is opening up bright prospects. History will prove that China's development and revitalization is an irresistible trend, and cannot be stopped by any country, force or anyone. Both sides should have more communication and exchanges, understand, trust and support each other, and safeguard our common interests and legitimate rights and interests.

Ri Su Yong said, Chairman Kim Jong Un and General Secretary Xi Jinping have met several times in recent years, charting the course for the development of DPRK-China relations. State Councilor Wang Yi's visit to the DPRK on the occasion of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of DPRK-China diplomatic relationship is of great significance to the implementation of the consensus reached by the top leaders of the two countries. The DPRK side is willing to strengthen exchanges with the Chinese side at all levels, promote practical cooperation and push forward bilateral friendly and cooperative relations for new development. Ri Su Yong expressed, the DPRK side sincerely congratulates the People's Republic of China on the 70th anniversary of its founding and the great achievements of China's socialist cause. The DPRK side will continue to firmly support the policies and measures taken by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government on Hong Kong issue, the Taiwan question and issues concerning China's core interests.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula situation and other topics.
