2019-06-03 20:00

On June 3, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks at request with Diplomatic Counselor to French President Emmanuel Bonne.

Wang Yi pointed out President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to France this March, during which he and President Emmanuel Macron made in-depth strategic communication. Both sides should well implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, respect and accommodate each other's core and just concerns to uplift bilateral practical cooperation in various areas to a new level and push the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership for greater development under the new circumstances.

Wang Yi stressed that currently, unilateralism, protectionism and bullying behaviors are impacting the world economic order severely and imposing negative influence over global governance and world peace and stability. China and France, as independent and influential major countries in the world, should strengthen strategic coordination and join hands to play due roles in maintaining world peace and order. At the G20 Osaka Summit, China and France should push for a concerted and positive call. First, we should safeguard multilateralism, oppose unilateralism and protectionism, and maintain the multilateral trade system with the World Trade Organization; second, we should carry forward the spirit of partnership and enhance dialogue and coordination on macro policies in line with the principle of agreement through consultation and avoid imposing one's own view on others; and third, highlight a development-oriented approach, promote the balanced and inclusive development of the world economy and implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Chinese side is willing to work with the French side to continuously push for the implementation of the Paris Agreement to facilitate green, low-carbon and sustainable development of the world.

Emmanuel Bonne said that President Xi Jinping's visit to France in March this year was very successful. The French side is willing to keep close high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, fully respect each other's interests and concerns, continue to enhance mutual trust and deepen practical cooperation. Both France and China are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and both countries highly value and always adhere to multilateralism and international cooperation. The two sides should strengthen coordination and cooperation on major global and regional issues, such as the G20 affairs, climate change and the Iranian nuclear issue.
