On May 11, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda of Japan in Beijing.

Wang Yi noted that China-Japan relations have maintained a momentum of improvement and development, which should be well recognized and cherished. Under the new circumstances, both sides should strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields under the political guidance of leaders of the two countries, so as to elevate bilateral relations to a new stage.

Yasuo Fukuda expressed that with a firm will to develop and improve Japan-China relations, the Japanese side hopes to work with the Chinese side to push bilateral relations for constant and new development. The Japanese side expects that China and the United States can properly solve disputes through dialogue and inject positive energy into world economy.
