On January 10, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Hunt of the United Kingdom (UK), exchanging views on China-UK relations and the Myanmar issue. Wang Yi noted that facing an uncertain international environment, China and the UK, as comprehensive strategic partners, should strengthen strategic communication and cooperation and jointly play a stabilizing role. It is hoped that the UK side will properly handle relevant issues that impact bilateral mutual trust and are not conducive to the sound development of bilateral relations in order to truly implement the consensus on building the "Golden Era" of China-UK relations. Regarding the Myanmar issue, Wang Yi said that the priority now is to encourage Myanmar and Bangladesh to reinforce communication and coordination, and start the first batch of repatriation as soon as possible, so as to play a constructive role in pushing forward the settlement of this issue. Jeremy Hunt expressed that the UK side attaches high importance to developing its relations with China, appreciates the Chinese side's significant role in international and regional affairs and is willing to maintain communication and coordination with the Chinese side on the development of bilateral relations and relevant hotspot issues including the Myanmar issue.
