Wang Yi: South-South Cooperation Has Been Elevated to New Stages
2018-12-11 04:56

On December 11, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the Symposium on International Developments and China's Diplomacy in 2018.

Wang Yi expressed that the year of 2018 is a year of South-South cooperation for China's diplomacy. From the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), we have realized full coverage of collective dialogue with developing countries. The FOCAC Beijing Summit successfully held this September was a historic meeting of the big family for China-Africa friendship. 40 Presidents, 10 Prime Ministers, 1 Vice President and Chairman of the African Union Commission attended the Summit, which not only hit a record high among the previous FOCAC summits, but also recorded China's most high-profile diplomatic event ever hosted by China. China and Africa adopted over one hundred cooperation measures with the eight major initiatives as the core, conveying a strong signal of solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa with a shared future. President Xi Jinping put forward a "five-no" approach: no interference in African countries' pursuit of development paths that fit their national conditions; no interference in African countries' internal affairs; no imposition of our will on African countries; no attachment of political strings to assistance to Africa; and no seeking of selfish political gains in investment and financing cooperation with Africa, which set a benchmark of self-discipline for China's cooperation with Africa and showcased the code of ethics for international development and cooperation. For some doubts and accusations against China-Africa cooperation, leaders of African countries respectively stood out to refute and clarify in public, and unanimously believed that China is the most reliable cooperation partner of the African continent in its development and revitalization.
