Wang Yi: Do Not Hear Xinjiang-related Affairs through the Grapevine
2018-11-13 00:14

On November 13, 2018, when jointly meeting the press after holding China-Germany Diplomatic and Security Strategic Dialogue with Foreign Minister Heiko Maas of Germany, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi answered questions from a German journalist about vocational education and training centers in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China.

Wang Yi expressed that affairs related to Xinjiang are China's internal affairs. It is hoped that journalist friends would pay attention to the information officially issued and the situation officially introduced by China, that is, the authoritative information issued under the authorization of the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, rather than believing in the gossip, and being keen on hearing them through the grapevine. It is of course the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region that has the best understanding of the situation in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region rather than other people or organizations.

Wang Yi hoped that journalist friends would understand and support the efforts made by the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to combat terrorism and extremism as well as to safeguard the social stability and people's security of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. These efforts conform exactly to the general direction of the international community in combating terrorism and also constitute an important part of international counter-terrorism efforts. In particular, we combine combating and prevention while putting prevention first. If prevention is done well, terrorism will lose breeding ground for spreading and taking root, which is the most effective way to combat terrorism.
