On November 4, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at request in Shanghai with Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Monica Juma of Kenya, who accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta on his visit to China for the first China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Wang Yi expressed that President Uhuru Kenyatta's heading a delegation to China for the CIIE this time demonstrates the great importance the Kenyan side has attached to China-Kenya relations and its resolution to join hands with the Chinese side to build an open world economy, for which the Chinese side appreciates. Both sides should jointly well implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Uhuru Kenyatta as well as the outcomes from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), enhance strategic communication, and continue understanding each other and supporting each other's core interests and major concerns. Both countries should strengthen the alignment of development strategies and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, industrial parks, transportation, and people-to-people and cultural engagement. As a comprehensive strategic cooperative partner of Kenya, the Chinese side supports Kenya in playing a more important role in African affairs.

Monica Juma thanked the Chinese side for inviting the Kenyan side to China for the CIIE. The current Kenya-China relations have been constantly enhanced. The Kenyan side attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and stands ready to make concerted efforts with the Chinese side to well implement the outcomes from the FOCAC Beijing Summit and deepen practical cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, infrastructure and people-to-people and cultural engagement, in a bid to elevate bilateral relations to higher levels. It is hoped that both sides will continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation under multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations.
