On August 27, 2018, Vice President Wang Qishan met with Minister for Foreign Affairs Néstor Francisco Popolizio Bardales of Peru at Zhongnanhai.

Wang Qishan noted that with a long history of exchanges, China and Peru enjoy a solid foundation of traditional friendship. China and Peru, both as important emerging market economies in the Pacific Rim, are good friends sharing mutual trust and good partners enjoying common development. President Xi Jinping visited Peru in 2016, opening a new chapter for China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership. The two sides should constantly deepen understanding, increase mutual trust, and take the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative as an opportunity to intensify communication and coordination, and deepen practical cooperation, so as to benefit the two peoples. China will constantly deepen reform, expand opening up, firmly safeguard an open world economy, and share the new opportunities of China's economic development with various countries.

Néstor Francisco Popolizio Bardales expressed that the Peruvian side admires China's great development achievements, and stands ready to, under the guidance of the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields with the Chinese side, constantly deepen Peru-China comprehensive strategic partnership, and work together to well maintain the global free trade system.
