Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ma Zhaoxu's Remarks on Iran Building a Uranium Enrichment Factory
2009/09/27

Q:It is reported that Iran has sent a letter to the IAEA admitting to have secretly constructed a uranium enrichment factory. Leaders of the United States, Britain and France have made statements on this. What's China's comment?

A: We have taken note of Iran sending a letter to the IAEA to inform it of the issue. At the same time, we have also taken note that leaders of the United States, Britain and France have made statements over this issue. We follow the developments of the situation.

We expect the IAEA to perform its duties in the framework of its authorization. We expect Iran to cooperate with the IAEA on the issue.

We support safeguarding the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and solving relevant non-proliferation issues peacefully through negotiation. We hope the forthcoming talks between the six countries and Iran on October 1st can produce positive progress.
